The South County Sanitary Service has scheduled dates they will pick up large and bulky trash items that Nipomo residents want to throw out. The community clean up week is scheduled for April 10 through 14, 2006. The Times Press Recorder reports:
The semiannual service for disposing of oversize items is offered free to all single-family residential customers of South County Sanitary Service, said a spokeswoman for Nipomo Community Services District.
Residents should place Clean-Up Week garbage on the curb no later than 6 a.m. on their regular garbage collection days.
Clean-Up Week garbage may be placed in standard trash cans, various other containers or tied into bundles. Containers and bundles of garbage must weigh no more than 75 pounds and must measure 4 feet or less in overall length.
Those with bulky items should call South County Sanitary Service two business days before the regular collection day to arrange pickup. A special price of $10 for hauling bulky items will be in effect only during Clean-Up Week, and items must be on the curb to qualify for the prices.
The spokeswoman noted that some common items, such as household batteries, fluorescent lights, paints, cleaners and solvents, are considered hazardous waste and cannot be placed at the curb for the program.
Such items should be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Site at 509 Southland St. between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturdays.

This is a great service affored to our community. It is an opportunity to throw unwanted bulky trash items, like old washing machines, dryers, couches, television sets, beds, and other like items into the trash where they belong, and not dumped behind office complexes, in Black Lake Canyon, or along side of the road. So many irresponsible people have littered our community by throwing out such items illegally.
