Local candidates for elective office have begun filing paperwork, countywide. The Tribune reports in today’s edition:

The fall election season in San Luis Obispo County officially started Monday — the first day candidates could pull papers to run for office.

“It’s been busy, busy, busy,” county Clerk-Recorder Julie Rodewald said. “We usually get quite a few statements to file for offices that are open.”

By Monday morning, seven people, split among incumbents and newcomers, filed for candidacy at the county office. A handful of hopefuls pulled papers at city clerk offices.

The Clerk-Recorder’s Elections Office has been taking appointments with would-be candidates every half hour.

Positions on the county’s seven city councils are available, as well as board seats in the county’s 10 school districts. Seats are also up for election on the Cuesta College and county school boards.

Seats are also up for grabs in 12 community services districts boards. The districts provide various public services, such as water, sewer or fire protection, in unincorporated areas.

Seats are also open on the boards of Cambria’s ambulance district and Cayucos’ sewer and fire districts, as well as the Port San Luis Harbor District Board of Commissioners.

Candidates have until Aug. 11 to file papers that guarantee their name will appear on the ballot.

If an incumbent chooses not to run for re-election, the filing deadline for that position will extend to Aug. 16.

Nipomo’s Community Services District will have three board seats open, each for a full four year term. Those directors up for reelection in November are: Clifford Trotter, Larry Vierheilig, and Judith Wirsing. Each Friday, the County Recorder’s Website will update those individuals who have filled out application papers to run. I will update this space with that information as well, and provide links.
